greenSwitch 12/500

greenSwitch is a remote-controllable power switch for safely switching large currents. It is controlled either via a control switch ("Remote Button", see article EM145), via greenView, or via a WiFi converter + smartphone. What makes greenSwitch special is that a BMS can also be connected directly to protect batteries; for this it has two inputs (LVP and OVP). However, it can also be used as a normal power relay.

When a BMS is connected, the device supports various operating modes, which can be selected via a DIP switch:

Mode 0, LVP:
The device responds only to the LVP control signal from the BMS. For switching loads (inverters, motors …) to protect the battery against deep discharge.

Mode 1, OVP:
The device responds only to the OVP control signal from the BMS. For switching charging sources to protect the battery against overcharging.

Mode 2, LVP:
Like Mode 0, but with inverted input.

Mode 3, OVP:
Like Mode 1, but with inverted input.

Mode 4, LVP – OVP:
Both LVP (undervoltage) and OVP (overvoltage) are evaluated. Especially for users with a finished system who want to convert to lithium batteries and whose charging and load cannot easily be separated due to the existing wiring. Here, charging sources and loads are connected together at the greenSwitch.

Mode 5, LVP – OVP AUTO:
Like Mode 4, but after a protective shutdown the device switches back on automatically. If a shutdown occurred due to deep discharge, it switches back on automatically as soon as a charging source is detected. If a shutdown occurred due to overvoltage, it switches back on automatically as soon as a load is detected.

The last two operating modes were developed specifically for converting existing lead-acid battery technology to lithium technology in caravans and boats.

Switching states are shown by LEDs on the device and on the Remote Button (EM145). When greenView is used, the switching state, temperature and estimated current are shown graphically on the TFT, for example.
